The Agro-Food Chains Inclusive Development Program (PROCAVA) has recently been distinguished by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a UN agency, as the best program in its funding portfolio.
The distinction results from the evaluation of several similar continental programmes, co-financed by IFAD, and aspects such as management, monitoring and performance evaluation have been valued.
For the Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP), this distinction shows that "Mozambique remains able to show how good management and outcome-oriented planning is done".
In implementation since May 2020 and with a 2030 completion, PROCAVA covers 75 districts from all provinces of the country.
The main objective of the programme is to reduce poverty, improve food and nutrition security and strengthen the livelihoods of rural communities, focusing on climate resilience.
According to official data, PROCAVA aims to reach 180 500 families, mostly small farmers, promoting the increase of income through chains of agri-food value resilient to climate change, especially the chains of horticulture, cassava and red meats.
IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialised United Nations agency.
Since 1983, IFAD has invested more than $386.47 million in 15 rural development programmes and projects in Mozambique, totaling nearly $585 million. These interventions directly benefited 2.3 million rural families.
