The city of Maputo hosts, since Monday (20), the 5th Energy and Climate Seminar of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), a joint initiative of the Lusófona Association of Renewable Energies (ALER) and the Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese Official Language Countries (RELOP). The meeting, under the theme "Energy Planning and Financing", marks the beginning of CPLP's Energy and Climate Week and aims to strengthen technical and institutional cooperation between Portuguese-speaking countries in promoting a fair, sustainable and inclusive energy transition.
The event has the institutional support of CPLP and the Government of Mozambique, through the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), and funding the European GET programme. Transform, the European Union and Belgian cooperation ENABEL.
At the opening, the president of ALER Mayra Pereira argued that the series of seminars has been strengthening collaboration between governments, companies and civil society, creating synergies between energy, environment and finance. "Our objective is, of course, to plan better, to finance better and to act faster," he said, adding that this fifth meeting, aligned with CPLP's 2030 Energy and Climate Cooperation Roadmap, demonstrates the collective desire to "turn commitments into results. "
Mayra Pereira recalled the African Climate Summit, recently held in Addis Ababa, where the leaders of the continent reaffirmed their determination to place Africa "at the heart of the global climate solution". "Africa is a power of solutions with the ability to attract investment, innovate and lead the green transformation," he stressed.
She also highlighted that the Lusophone space is rich in complementary experiences and geographies: "Brazil, with its leadership in combating the climate crisis; Portugal, with its long-term planning and integration of renewable energies; and East Timor, with its commitment to good governance, show that cooperation can be an instrument of global transformation. "
