Industry Extractive: Government will allocate 862.8 million Meticals to communities

The Mozambican Government will allocate, in 2026, 862.8 million Meticals to the host communities and provinces of the mining and oil resource projects, of which 625.5 million Meticals will be allocated to the provinces (equivalent to 7.25%) and 237.3 million Meticals for local communities (equivalent to 2.75%).

The figure represents an increase of 140,4 million Meticals compared to the one projected for 2025, in which the Government promised to transfer 722.4 million Meticals, with 523.7 million Meticals to the provinces and 198,7 million Meticals to the communities.

Remember that the value is transferred in accordance with Article 20 of Law No 15/2022 of 19 December and Article 48 of Law No 16/2022 of 19 December establishing the transfer of 10% of revenue from taxes on mining and oil production to the provinces, districts and local communities where the projects are implemented.

According to the Proposal for the Economic and Social Plan and the State Budget for 2026, the "prepared cake", the province of Cabo Delgado, which houses natural gas and rubies exploration projects, will have the largest share, worth 223.5 million Meticais. The following are the provinces of Zambezia and Tete, which will receive respectively 222.8 million Meticals and 213.1 million Meticals.

The province of Inhambane will fit 128,4 million Meticals, while the province of Nampula will receive 71.4 million Meticals and the province of Gaza will pocket 2.2 million Meticals.

Among the provinces that will receive values below 01 million Meticais are Maputo, which will fit 229.16,000 Meticais; Sofala, which will pocket 253.64 thousand Meticais; and Niassa, which will receive 586.24 thousand Meticais. Strangely enough, the province of Manica does not appear on the distribution map of the value prepared by the government.
